Kind donation of food made by the staff and customers

On Saturday the 4th May local business, The Fish Hut on Hawkins lane made a very generous delivery of fresh fish and chips to rough sleepers using the Reconnect centre.

Dylan Powell, a student who works part time at The Fish Hut came up with the idea that he wanted to fund a hot meal for the rough sleepers he often sees in the town centre, he told his manager Felipe Silva who suggested they split the cost and also give their customers a chance to donate so have had a collection box up in the shop for the past week.

The staff at the YMCA made the rough sleepers aware of the upcoming meal throughout the week so they had an idea of numbers to cater for.

Felipe Silva, manager at The Fish Hut said “This project was Dylan’s idea, he wanted to do something to help and came up with the idea of donating fish and chips. We agreed to split the costs and also give our customers a chance to chip in also.
When you see young people like Dylan who go out of their way to show care and concern like this, it gives me great hope for the next generation of leaders in our community.”

Paul Laffey, CEO of YMCA Burton said “This is such a positive and generous offer from Felipe and the team at The Fish Hut, the hot dinner was a real treat for the rough sleepers who really appreciated it.”

The Fish Hut is based on Hawkins Lane and their website is www.fishhutburton.com where they can take online orders ready for collection.
